About Pontoonz

About Pontoonz: making pontoon pods in NZ since 2003

Our Story

It started with a shed on the water.

In 2003 we wanted a houseboat. Something simple to sleep on and potter around the estuary with friends and family. Everything on the market was expensive and inflexible.

So, with help from marine designers, we built a modular pod system, bolted a deck on, put a garden shed on top and went boating. That shed is still afloat.

Since then Pontoonz has shipped over 5,000 pods across New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific, to Antarctica, and to the course marshals at SailGP and the America's Cup.

In 2026 the business passed to new ownership with the same moulds, the same Auckland manufacturing and the same approach: the pods are the hull, everything above the deck is yours. Businesses that want to stock the pods can become a Pontoonz distributor.

Why Pontoonz

The pontoon system the professionals chose

Proven at the Top

Marker boats and buoys for every SailGP regatta since 2018 and the 2017 and 2024 America's Cup.

Built to Last

Rotomoulded, marine-grade, UV-stabilised polyethylene with a 5 to 7mm wall. 15+ year life, no antifoul.

Any Size You Want

Pods bolt into a hull of any length and width. Add pods later as the project grows.

One System, Every Job

The same pods build a houseboat, a pump barge, a jetty and a swim raft.

Genuinely DIY

Cut, drill and bolt. The first Pontoonz houseboat was a garden shed on pods. It's still afloat.
